Steve Backshall presents Deadly Aerial Assassins at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park. Steve Backshall is the popular presenter from Deadly 60 and other shows on BBC Television. The Zoological Society of London together with BBC Events organised this amazing show during the May bank holiday weekend at Whipsnade Zoo. Since I live within walking distance it would have been rude not to pay a visit and try out my new Olympus 75-300mm lens.

The Technical Bits

As I knew this was one, and the longest reach that I had for my use, was my Panasonic 35-100mm I thought it was a good opportunity to expand on my lenses. I found it hard to decide whether to go for the Panasonic 100-300 or the Olympus 75-300. In the end I went with the Olympus 75-300 from Amazon UK as it was cheaper, provided a bit of extra reach, and I have IBIS in my Olympus PEN anyway.

If you interested in this lens, please do click-through from my site and you’ll help to support the hosting costs. I ordered mine and it was perfect next day delivery.

I’m pleased with the results for my first ever outing and use. It was hard tracking the birds as they flew so quickly, I definitely need to practise a bit more but it is very pleasant and with much more subject separation than I thought was possible for such a ‘slow’ lens. I saw slow and that is purely compared to my primes. The auto focus is very fast indeed.
